What is Prostamax
Prostamax is the trade name for the synthetic tetrapeptide KEDP, sequence Lys-Glu-Asp-Pro, supplied as a lyophilised powder for laboratory research. The material is produced by solid phase peptide synthesis as a single defined sequence and released against a lot specific certificate of analysis.
KEDP identity and structure
KEDP is a four residue sequence comprising lysine, glutamic acid, aspartic acid and proline. Short peptides are useful reference standards for analytical method development because they give simpler chromatograms and fewer variables to control than longer sequences.
Synthetic material, not a tissue extract
Short peptides of this class are also supplied elsewhere as fractions extracted from animal tissue. The two are not equivalent. An extract is a heterogeneous mixture that cannot be characterised by sequence, whereas a synthetic peptide can be confirmed by mass and by sequence analysis.
The material supplied here is synthetic and of the stated sequence, and that is confirmed on the certificate of analysis for the lot. Investigators reading the older extract literature should not assume that work transfers to this material, because the two were not characterised to the same standard.
Specification figures for the lot
The exact molecular formula, molecular weight, CAS reference and measured purity for the lot supplied are stated on its certificate of analysis. Published figures for research peptides are not always consistent between sources, so this page defers to the certificate rather than restating a value that may not match the material in the vial.
Working with tetrapeptides
Tetrapeptides behave differently from longer sequences in handling. They are generally more soluble and mass differences between related impurities are proportionally larger, which makes them easier to resolve by RP-HPLC. Sequences carrying both acidic and basic side chains, as KEDP does, are sensitive to buffer pH in solution, so confirm buffer compatibility before preparing stocks.
Analysis and certification
Each lot of KEDP is analysed by an independent laboratory using RP-HPLC with LC-MS identity confirmation before it is released for sale. The certificate of analysis is published against the lot number rather than the product page, so the document you read is the document for the vial you receive.
Research use only
NH Peptides supplies KEDP as an analytical reference standard for laboratory research. It is not supplied for any use in humans or animals, and no information on this page describes or implies any such use.
